When it comes to food for a themed party, this is where your imagination can really run wild! Toy Story has so many characters, locations, and funny little references to play with that you can theme everything from appetizers and main dishes to an entire dessert table.
For our son’s second birthday party, we really leaned into the desserts and made some seriously fun Toy Story treats. But you definitely don’t have to make everything from scratch or theme every single thing you serve. Toy Story Desserts & Sweet Treats
One of my favorite spaces to design for any party is the dessert table. This is where I really love playing with the colors, characters, and little details that bring the whole theme together.
For our Toy Story party, I made several of the desserts myself, and honestly, some of them ended up being my favorite details from the entire party. Let’s break down what I made, plus a few more Toy Story dessert ideas you can add to your own table.
Alien Cupcakes
These Alien Cupcakes were an absolute hit! The kids loved them, and they were super easy to make. Here’s how you can recreate these fun treats for your Toy Story birthday party:
Candy Eyes: Place three candy eyes on top to complete the alien face. These add a fun touch and make the cupcakes truly stand out. These from Amazon work great!
Cupcake Base: Start with your favorite flavor cupcake recipe (or use a box mix for simplicity). These liners are super cute!
Green Buttercream: Pipe high, neon green buttercream on top for that bold, alien look! For the perfect shade, be sure to use neon green food coloring—this will give you that bright, out-of-this-world color.
Woody’s Cowboy Hat Pops
These Woody’s Cowboy Hat Pops were another one of my favorites from the dessert table. They’re such a fun way to represent Woody without needing complicated cake-decorating skills, and you only need a handful of ingredients to make them.
The combination of the curved Pringle and marshmallow creates the perfect little cowboy hat shape!
What You’ll Need:
- Lollipop sticks
- Marshmallows
- Pringles chips
- Chocolate (for melting)
Steps to Make:
- Add the Lollipop Stick: Insert a lollipop stick into the bottom of the marshmallow for a fun and easy-to-hold treat!
- Melt the Chocolate: Start by melting your chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Be sure to stir it frequently so it doesn’t burn!
- Assemble the Cowboy Hat: Take a marshmallow and dab a little melted chocolate on the bottom to act as “glue.”
- Attach the Marshmallow to the Pringle: Place the marshmallow on top of a Pringle chip, making sure the chocolate holds them together.

Jessie Cookies
These Jessie’s Hat Cookies were surprisingly easy to make, and that bright red added such a great pop of color to the dessert table! I also loved having another way to bring Jessie into the party. Little details like this are such an easy way to let the food help tell the story of your theme.
What You’ll Need:
- Shortbread cookie dough (or your favorite cookie dough recipe)
- Red food coloring
- Royal white icing (for piping)
- Red gumdrops (for the hat topper)
Steps to Make:
- Prepare the Dough: Make your cookie dough and add red food coloring until you get a nice, vibrant red.
- Shape the Cookies: Roll out the dough and use a cowboy hat cookie cutter to cut out each cookie.
- Bake and Cool: Bake according to your recipe instructions and allow the cookies to cool completely before decorating.
- Add the Details: Pipe white royal icing around the edges to create the little stitched details.
- Finish the Hat: Add a red gumdrop to the center to complete Jessie’s signature hat look.

I couldn’t do a Toy Story dessert table without including Forky somewhere! These cupcakes were such a fun way to bring him into the theme, and the little DIY Forky toppers made otherwise simple cupcakes feel completely custom.
What You’ll Need:
- Cupcakes in your favorite flavor
- White frosting
- Plastic sporks
- Googly eyes
- Red pipe cleaners
Steps to Make:
- Bake and Frost: Start with your favorite cupcakes and top each one with white frosting.
- Create Forky: Use a plastic spork for his body and attach googly eyes to create his face.
- Add His Arms: Cut red pipe cleaners into smaller pieces, shape them into Forky’s arms, and attach them to the spork.
- Finish the Cupcakes: Place one completed Forky topper into each cupcake and they’re ready for the dessert table!
Classic Pixar Ball Cake Pops

Cake pops have become a little birthday tradition in our house. I only make them for my kids’ birthdays, which makes them feel even more special!
For our Toy Story party, I turned my signature chocolate chip cake pops into the classic Pixar ball using yellow candy melts, blue fondant stripes, and little red stars. They added another bright pop of color to the dessert table and fit the theme perfectly.
What You’ll Need:
- Your favorite cake pop recipe
- Frosting
- Yellow candy melts
- Blue fondant
- Red fondant
- Lollipop sticks
Steps to Make:
- Make the Cake Pops: Bake your cake and let it cool. Crumble it, mix with frosting, and roll the mixture into small balls.
- Add the Sticks: Insert a lollipop stick into each cake ball and allow them to chill until firm.
- Coat Them: Melt the yellow candy melts and dip each cake pop until completely coated. Allow the coating to set.
- Decorate: Cut the blue fondant into strips and the red fondant into small stars to recreate the classic Pixar ball design. Use a tiny amount of melted candy coating to attach the decorations.
- Let Them Set: Allow everything to firm up completely before arranging the cake pops on your dessert table.
Mr. Potato Head Fruit Platter

This was probably one of the easiest things I put together for the entire food table, but oh, what an impact it had! So many of our guests stopped to take pictures of it.
I grabbed the Mr. Potato Head toy my kids already had, cut a cantaloupe in half, and suddenly we had this adorable themed fruit platter. It’s also a perfect example of why I always say to raid your kids’ toy box when you’re decorating a themed party!
What You’ll Need:
- 1 cantaloupe
- Mr. Potato Head pieces
- Assorted cut fruit
Steps to Make:
- Create the Base: Cut the cantaloupe in half and scoop out the fruit. Save it because you can add it right back onto the platter!
- Build Mr. Potato Head: Add the face, arms, and other pieces from a Mr. Potato Head toy to the cantaloupe.
- Add the Fruit: Arrange strawberries, grapes, melon, or whatever fruit your family likes around him.
- Serve: That’s it! You have an easy Toy Story party food idea that doubles as part of your table decor.

Toy Story Birthday Cake
We got incredibly lucky with this cake! A family friend who is a professional baker made this gorgeous tiered Woody cake for our son’s birthday, and it ended up being the centerpiece of the entire dessert table.
He designed each tier around Woody’s classic cowboy outfit, complete with the cow-print vest, belt buckle, buttons, and all those little details that immediately make you think of Woody.
And yes—it tasted just as good as it looked!
If you’re ordering a Toy Story birthday cake from a bakery, don’t feel like you need every character squeezed onto the cake. I love the idea of choosing one recognizable character or detail and letting that inspire the entire design. Woody’s outfit gave our baker more than enough to work with, and it tied into the party perfectly.
“There’s a Snake in My Boot” Gummies
Woody’s famous line his string pull says! This is one idea I came across after the party but follow my here, cowboy boot dirt cups! I found these mini plastic clear cowboy boot cups. My first thought is dirt cups with gummy snakes hanging out the side!
What You’ll Need:
- Chocolate pudding
- Cookie crumbs
- Mini chocolate chips
- Gummy snakes
- Mini cowboy boot cups
Steps to Make:
- Make the chocolate pudding per recipe or package instructions. (psst.. box pudding is perfect!)
- Once cooled and set mix in some mini chocolate chips to create some “rock” lumps.
- Spoon the pudding into each cup.
- Top the pudding with the cookie crumbs and a couple more mini chocolate chips
- Place a gummy snake in each cup.

Who can deny that dessert is usually the best part of a party? But don’t overlook the main dishes! There are so many easy ways to carry the Toy Story theme into the actual meal without creating a ton of extra work for yourself.
Here are a few Toy Story party food ideas that would be perfect for the main table.
🍕 Pizza Planet Pizza
🍕 Pizza Planet Pizza
Pizza was the obvious choice for our Toy Story party! Pizza Planet is such an iconic part of the first movie, and serving pizza gave us an easy way to bring the theme into the main meal without creating more work for ourselves.
It’s also just a great party food. Kids love it, adults love it, it’s easy to order for a crowd, and cleanup is pretty painless.

🌭 Slinky Dog Hot Dogs
This might be one of the easiest Toy Story food ideas on the list. Serve hot dogs with a little “Slinky Dog” food sign and you’re done!
If you want to take it a step further, I’ve seen people cut hot dogs into spirals or wrap thin strips of puff pastry around them to create that slinky shape. But don’t feel like you have to add the extra work—a cute themed sign beside a tray of regular hot dogs gets the idea across just fine.
🤠 Woody’s Roundup Sandwiches
I really like this idea for a party because sandwiches are easy to prep ahead of time and easy for guests to grab throughout the day.
You could order a tray of mini sandwiches, make sliders, or do my personal favorite for this theme—pinwheels! Add a little “Woody’s Roundup” sign beside the platter and suddenly an everyday party food fits right into your Toy Story theme.

🦖 Rex’s Dino Nuggets
Dino nuggets are a staple in this house. Right now, they’re basically my five-year-old’s main food group!
I’ve put out trays of them at plenty of our parties because they’re such an easy option for kids, especially when you don’t know how adventurous your younger guests will be with the rest of the menu.
For a Toy Story party, the theme practically writes itself—Rex’s Dino Nuggets! Put them on a big platter with a Rex food sign and you have another ridiculously easy themed dish.
🥔 Mr. Potato Head Potato Chips
Here’s another ridiculously easy one: put out a bowl of potato chips and call them Mr. Potato Head’s Potato Chips.
If your kids have a Mr. Potato Head toy, set him beside the bowl as part of the display. A toy + a cute food sign + a bowl of chips, and you’ve turned something you were probably serving anyway into part of the theme.

I always like to have a few snacks and appetizers out from the moment guests arrive. People usually show up hungry, and most of the time I’m not ready to put the main food out the second the party starts!

I have to imagine Pizza Planet had a popcorn machine somewhere in that arcade, right?
Popcorn is such an easy party snack, especially if you have a popcorn machine. We used ours for years before it finally gave up on us after MANY parties and movie nights, and I absolutely plan on replacing it.
Serve the popcorn in individual boxes or a big bowl with a “Pizza Planet Popcorn” sign and you have another easy snack that fits right into the theme.

How to Host the Perfect Backyard Movie Nights
🪖 Army Men Snack Mix
This one can be completely customized with whatever snacks your family likes. Mix together things like pretzels, popcorn, cereal, crackers, and bite-size candies, then serve everything in a large bowl.
The trick that makes it Toy Story themed? Little green army men!
Scatter a few around the outside of the bowl or use them as decorations on the table, then add an “Army Men Snack Mix” sign. It’s another example of taking an ordinary party snack and making it fit the theme without creating an entirely new recipe. Green Army Men Action Figures
🥕 Bo Peep’s Veggie Cups
It’s always nice to have something fresh on the table too! Individual veggie cups are easy for guests to grab and walk around with, or you can keep things even simpler with one big veggie platter and a bowl of dip.
Add a cute “Bo Peep’s Veggie Cups” sign beside them and that’s really all you need to tie them into the theme. Sometimes the food name does all the decorating work for you!
Tips for Planning Toy Story Party Food
Don’t worry about turning every single thing you serve into a Toy Story character. This should be fun for you to put together and fun for your guests to enjoy! A few themed foods mixed with your usual party favorites are more than enough.
A few things I’ve learned from putting together themed party menus:
- Let food signs do some of the work. A bowl of regular potato chips becomes “Mr. Potato Head’s Potato Chips” with one cute sign.
- Raid your kids’ toy box! Use their Toy Story toys as decorations around the food and dessert tables instead of buying more decor.
- Mix homemade and store-bought. Save yourself time with store-bought foods and save money by making the things that are worth DIYing.
- Know what you can realistically accomplish. I rely on my mom and friends for help with party prep too. Don’t be afraid to ask for help!
- Prep ahead when you can. Anything you can make, bake, chop, or assemble the day before is one less thing you have to think about on party day.

You don’t have to turn every single thing on the table into a Toy Story character to make the food feel special. A few themed desserts, some fun food names, and easy kid-friendly favorites are more than enough to pull the whole theme together.
