Under the Big Top Décor
The easiest way to make your carnival birthday party feel like a real carnival is to go bold with red and white stripes. I transformed our dining room into a “Big Top” tent using crepe streamers, balloons, and a few simple tools. It created an unforgettable focal point and had guests talking the second they walked in!

What I Used:
- Red & white crepe streamers
- Clear thumbtacks / clips
- Balloon garland strip + glue dots
- Electric balloon pump
- Assorted balloons in primary colors
- Striped tablecloths + tissue fans
✨ Pro Tip: I used about three rolls of each color streamer to cover our dining room ceiling, but adjust based on your space.

DIY Carnival Birthday Party Games + Photo Booth Fun
These DIY booths were perfect for our carnival birthday party midway. I set each game up along the fence and used cardboard trifolds as colorful backdrops to make them feel like real carnival booths. The best part? Everything was easy to prep, fun for the kids, and simple to reset.
✨ Want to recreate the look? Here’s how:
📸 Photo Booth
We used a circus-themed backdrop with strongman and acrobat cutouts. Add a few silly props and it becomes an instant photo op.

🏈 Football Toss
I made a simple target by shaping a pool noodle into a ring and hanging it from our outdoor light poles. A few mini footballs were all it took to keep kids lined up to play.

💦 Water Gun Shootout
Ping pong balls balanced on golf tees made perfect targets, and squirt guns kept kids playing nonstop.

Carnival Birthday Party Favors & Treats
The kids were so excited to head home with fun little souvenirs from the party. I kept it simple with ready-to-go favor bags and some sweet cotton candy treats that doubled as décor.
🎪 Circus Favor Bags
Each child left with a carnival-themed favor bag filled with small toys and trinkets. I grabbed a complete set on Amazon—it came with everything I needed and saved me the hassle of piecing things together.

🍭 Cotton Candy Treats
Instead of renting a machine, I bought tubs of cotton candy, split them into clear bags, and sealed each one with a custom Cricut label. I clipped the bags to a large frame with mini clothespins, and it turned into one of the cutest décor moments of the party.

Carnival Birthday Party Food Ideas
Food is one of the easiest ways to bring the carnival birthday party theme to life. I mixed classic fair foods with kid-friendly options that were simple to prep and serve. Everything was set up buffet-style so guests could help themselves.
🌮 Walking Taco Bar
The biggest hit of the day! Guests grabbed a mini chip bag, added seasoned beef or chicken, and loaded it up with toppings. I used a slow cooker with a DIY divider to keep the meats separate, and a printable sign explained the steps.

🍔 Sliders & Hot Dogs
Instead of full-size burgers, I made sliders—perfect for little hands and easy to prep in bulk. Hot dogs fresh off the grill are always a crowd-pleaser. Paper trays and condiment squeeze bottles made serving a breeze.

🌽 Mini Corn Dogs
A true carnival classic! I baked frozen mini corn dogs in the oven right before serving. They stayed warm and crispy in baskets lined with checkered paper.

🥗 Side Dishes
To round out the menu, I served my go-to pasta salad and Nan’s famous potato salad—both easy to make ahead and perfect for a crowd. Colorful melamine bowls and buffet labels tied everything together.
