Aria decided she wanted a sleepover birthday party for her 9th birthday! We sat down and decided on the guest list with the number of girls I was comfortable with. We decided on six girls; it would be a total of 7 with my daughter. Next, I picked her brain on the theme, colors, and activities she was considering. Aria decided on a color scheme of teal, black, and silver. Now its time for me to get to work crafting and planning the perfect 9th birthday party this little girl could ever ask for.
I wanted to make sure the girls were busy. I figured busy girls equals less drama. These girls were great, they all had a great time and stayed up way too late, but it was a memorable party for all.
In our house, we don’t have a basement, but we have a large bonus room off the kitchen. For now, it’s our playroom, and that is where I wanted to stage the sleeping area for the party. We borrowed a few mattresses from one of the girl’s moms and made a cozy space for them to settle into later. Going for a “tent” or “fort” feel, I found this sheer wide ribbon at the Joanne Fabric in all the party colors. I started off by pinning white string lights all over the ceiling, and then, starting in the middle and alternating colors, I draped the ribbon from the ceiling. Five Below had a cute pink disco ball, which made the perfect decoration for the center.
I wanted to make sure the girls had lots of activities, and I love personalizing things, especially for a small group. The party favors would be a basket with their name on it and their initial on the side. Inside was everything they needed to do all of the activities. Every basket had the following:
I personalized everything using my Cricut machine, which made the process easy and fun. Whether you craft a lot or a little, the Cricut machine is a great tool for any type of project.
Painting a thin piece of wood gave me the perfect sleepover schedule board! The girls really liked checking it all night and seeing what was coming up next.
First up on our schedule for the party was pillow case decorating! The girls had so much fun decorating the personalized pillowcases using fabric markers. These markers were easy to use and gave the girls the freedom to color and draw on their pillowcases and be able to use them that night. I got the pillowcases from Amazon here, and the markers were a pack from Michaels here. Using the Cricut machine, I cut each girl’s name out of HTV or heat transfer vinyl and ironed them onto the pillowcases.
Next up on the party schedule was DIY body scrub, the recipe we used can be found here. In each of the girl’s baskets they found a jar, personalized with their name on the label.
This activity was a bit messy but the girl’s had a great time making their own sugar scrubs to use in the bath. They used different essential oils to get the scent each girl desired.
This felt like a good time to plug pizza and cupcakes, followed by presents! After We ate a bunch of pizza and cupcakes, it was time to get glammed up! I found makeup pallets, face masks, 4 makeup mirrors, and nail files at Five Below. At the Dollar Tree I found nail polish, lip stick, lip gloss, and makeup brushes.
The girls jumped in and started doing their makeup and hair, I also had clip-in fairy hair extensions and colored hair extensions for them. After getting all glam and gorgeous it was a dance party in here! Karaoke and Twister! After the girls danced and played is was movie time! The girls washed the makeup off their face, I had makeup remover wipes which helped, then they did their face masks.
The girls then setteled into the cozy section. We popped buckets of popcorn, these are great! A bucket of movie style popcorn you can microwave and pop in popcorn bucket. I also put together a candy snack board full of mini cookies, candy and marshmallows. They all setteled in and watched Wonka!
I hope you enjoyed our sleepover party and hope you were inspired to get out and plan your next sleepover birthday party!
