Custom Hand-Painted Sneakers!

Want to add a fun detail to the birthday boy or girl? Take a look at these handpainted sneakers I painted for my son. You’ll see which paint I used and the steps i took to get these adorable Toy Story-themed sneakers. They were the perfect addition to our Two-Infinity and Beyond Party.

For our son’s 2nd birthday party, Toy Story took center stage. When I was scrolling Pinterest for decoration ideas, I came across Toy Story themed Nike sneakers, and they were the perfect addition. Only they were completely out of my budget. So instead I decided to try and replicate them instead.

After doing a lot of research, I found the perfect leather paint set and brushes on Amazon. These paints are made to paint on leather and work really well. The paint set came with so many colors, almost all the colors I would need. Using the right paint will help maintain longevity in the wear of the sneakers You want to prep your sneakers the right way before painting, this will also help with the longevity of the paint on the sneakers. Materials used:

• White Nike sneakers
• leather paint
• paintbrushes, different sizes
• 200 grit sand paper
• rubbing alcohol

To prep the sneakers I took 220 grit sand paper and sanded all the way around the shoe. Making sure to get in all the creases and small areas. Next I took a soft cloth (like an old t shirt) and sprayed 91% ispoyl alchohol on the sneaker and wiped with the soft cloth.

Using my inspiration photo and our Woody doll, I broke down Woody’s main elements to transform one sneaker into the Woody side.

Yellow took two coats of paint to get it solid.

The green on the Buzz Lightyear sneaker took about 3 coats to get the color to look solid.

Here is the final product. Fun custom hand-painted sneakers perfect for our Toy Story loving little boy!

Make sure to let your sneakers dry and the paint to cure for a couple of days. Spray with polycrylis to seal the design in. As a matter of fact, he wore them all year and the design really held up great!
