Why a Dinosaur Birthday Party?

Dinosaurs have taken over our house! Our son is completely obsessed with them, so choosing a dinosaur-themed birthday party was a no-brainer for his third birthday. Now, let’s dive into this roar-some celebration and plan the ultimate dinosaur adventure!

Create a Guest List

First things first—make your guest list. Knowing how many people you’re hosting will help with planning everything else, from decorations to food and activities.

Jurassic Birthday Party Invitations

There are several ways to send out dinosaur birthday party invitations. You can go the traditional route with paper invites or use electronic invitation sites like Evite, or Paperless Post.

For this party, I used Facebook to create an event. I love using platforms like Facebook or Evite because they make it easy to track RSVPs. To give my event a creative touch, I designed a custom cover image using Canva.

Canva for Custom Invitations

Canva is a great tool for creating digital art for any occasion. I designed the event cover to reflect the Jurassic Park theme, making the party feel special from the moment guests saw the invite.

Jurassic Party Decorations to Wow Your Guests

Personalized Jurassic Park Logo

The first decoration I made was a large, custom Jurassic Park-inspired logo with the birthday boy’s name. This piece became the perfect centerpiece for our dessert table! I crafted a 26-inch-wide logo out of cardstock using my Cricut machine.

Pro tip: If you love crafting and DIY, invest in a Cricut machine—it does most of the work for you, giving you more time to focus on other aspects of planning. Click here to find one on Amazon

I bought the cut file from Etsy and edited it to say “Joey’s World.” Crafting this took some time, but seeing the reaction from my son and guests made it all worth it!

DIY Dinosaur Cutouts

To create a prehistoric atmosphere, I made large dinosaur cutouts. I used multiple layers of cardstock to craft three full-body dinosaurs and three dinosaur heads. The heads peeking over the fence added a fun, immersive touch that made guests feel like they were stepping into the Jurassic era.

Transforming the Room Into a Jungle

To give our dining room a jungle vibe, I twisted brown butcher paper to create branches. Using my Cricut machine again, I cut out tropical leaves and pterodactyls to decorate the room. My nine-year-old daughter helped make paper chains that hung from the ceiling, mimicking vines. It was a team effort that turned out amazing!

Dinosaur Footprints

I love setting the theme before guests even enter the house! I created dinosaur footprints leading up the sidewalk and driveway using a simple DIY technique.

How to Make DIY Dinosaur Footprints

You’ll need thick cardstock and spray sidewalk chalk. I used my Cricut to cut out a large dinosaur print stencil. Then, I sprayed the chalk over the stencil to leave prints on the ground.

Pro tip: Make a few stencils since the spray chalk can warp them after repeated use.

Dino-licious Treats for Your Dinosaur Party

Grilled Favorites and Sides

For the main meal, we kept things simple with grilled burgers, hot dogs, and wings. We also served sides like potato salad, pasta salad, mac and cheese, and tossed salad. But when it came to desserts, we got super creative!

Fossil Dinosaur Print Cookies

These adorable sugar cookies were a hit! Before baking, I pressed one of my son’s toy dinosaur feet into the dough to create a fossil print. I then dusted chocolate graham crackers in a food processor to create “dirt” and nestled the cookies in it, giving them a fossilized look.

Dinosaur Egg Cake Pops

Next up were my famous dinosaur egg cake pops! I shaped the dough into egg shapes and dipped them in speckled candy melt from Michaels. These are always a crowd favorite—there were no leftovers!

Dinosaur Bones in Sand:

This dish was both easy and fun. I covered pretzels in white chocolate to resemble dinosaur bones and buried them in a layer of graham cracker crumbs to look like sand.

Showstopping Dinosaur Head Fruit Platter

My mom took inspiration from Pinterest to create a stunning dinosaur head fruit platter. She carved the head out of a watermelon, and it was a true showstopper that wowed the guests!

Dinosaur Birthday Cake

Of course, no birthday is complete without a cake! My mom made an incredible dinosaur birthday cake that perfectly fit the theme. It was as delicious as it was beautiful!

Surprise Dinosaur Guest: Inflatable T-Rex Costume

A surprise appearance from a “real” dinosaur made the party unforgettable! My husband dressed up in an inflatable T-Rex costume from Amazon (click here to find it) and entertained the kids. They absolutely loved it!
