Are you ready to dive into a magical underwater adventure? Our Little Mermaid birthday party was a dream come true for my daughter, and I’m excited to share all the creative ideas and details that made it special. From ocean-inspired décor to fun mermaid-themed activities, you’ll find plenty of inspiration below!

Creating an Underwater Wonderland with Décor
To bring the underwater world to life, I focused on vibrant decorations that captured the magic of the sea. The backdrop, made with shimmering strips of tinsel, gave the illusion of water rippling under the ocean. Clear balloons, arranged in varying sizes and tied with fishing lines, floated like delicate bubbles—a huge thank you to my dad for assembling them!

DIY Mermaid Candelabra Centerpiece
One of the standout decorations was a custom-made mermaid candelabra. After searching through antique shops, I finally found the perfect base. I attached the kitchen utensils with hot glue and E6000 adhesive. Once secured, the entire piece was spray-painted in a light blue color. To add depth, I sponge-painted it with shades of blue and silver, then adorned it with pearls and seashells for that extra ocean touch.

Underwater Window Displays
To complete the scene, I added blue transparent material taped to the windows, while fish-shaped decorations hung throughout the room. This simple addition made everyone feel like they had truly stepped under the sea.

Fun Mermaid and Pirate Activities for Guests
No party is complete without exciting activities to entertain the guests! We provided several fun, themed experiences that were a hit with both the boys and girls.
Mermaid and Pirate Name Boards
Guests were greeted with name boards that displayed whimsical mermaid and pirate names. These were printed from a quick online search and mounted on decorated boards to match the theme.

Crafting Mermaid Wands and Pirate Eye Patches
I crafted mermaid wands for the girls and we had pirate eye patches for the boys. For an extra touch of magic, hair chalk was available to give the girls colorful “mermaid hair.” My cousin also joined in by doing face painting for all the kids, which added an artistic flair to the event.
I even made a special mermaid wand for my daughter, and five years later, she still keeps it proudly displayed in her room!

Sand Art Party Favors
As both an activity and a party favor, sand art perfectly matched our under-the-sea theme. I ordered colored sand and ocean-themed containers from SandArtSupplies.com, which I highly recommend. However, be sure to order more sand than you think you’ll need—I learned the hard way when we started running out of colors!

Making a Splash with Themed Outfits
Our family dressed the part for this magical event! I created my daughter’s custom mermaid shirt by hand (before I had my Cricut machine) and found the perfect matching pants on Amazon. My husband and I also wore themed shirts to get into the party spirit.

Delicious Treats for the Guests
The treat table was a showstopper! My mother amazed everyone with a beautifully decorated Little Mermaid-themed cake. Other sweet treats we made included cupcakes, rice crispy treats, and chocolate-covered Oreos.

Candy Bar Favors
I set up a candy bar as an interactive station where guests could fill their party favor bags with their favorite sweets. This was a huge success and kept the kids engaged while also serving as a memorable party takeaway.
